We are on Wurundjeri country, where it joins with Bunurong country. This is a really special and alive area, home to kangaroos, swamp wallabies, echidnas, wombats, native bees and heaps of birdlife including black cockatoos, as well as a thriving community of plants and fungi. People say that the name ‘Monbulk’ is from a local language word that means something like ‘hiding place in the hill’. We are calling the space Hiding Place as a way to centre the land and its sanctuary-like qualities, and to open conversations about place. If you know anything relating to this, we would love to hear about it.
‘We’ is Max and Niki. We are both artists, and work professionally as arts therapists. We live here and caretake the space, along with three other adult humans.
